Veteran political leader Retired Colonel Dr. Kizza Besigye has taken his case to the East African Court of Justice, petitioning against his extraterritorial abduction, illegal arrest, incommunicado detention, forceful removal from Kenya to Uganda, and arraignment in a military tribunal against his will.
According to reports, Besigye’s petition claims that his trial is in contempt of the December 15, 2022, orders of the Constitutional Court of Uganda, which barred the trial of civilians in military courts.

The controversy surrounding Besigye’s arrest and trial has sparked heated debates in Parliament, with many questioning the legality of his detention and trial.
Besigye, along with Hajji Obeid Lutale and Kamulegeya, were abducted from Riverside Apartments in Kenya, where he was attending a meeting.
He was then forcibly removed to Uganda and arraigned in a military tribunal against his will.
The East African Court of Justice petition is the latest development in Besigye’s long-standing battle against the Ugandan government.
The court’s decision will be closely watched, as it has significant implications for human rights and the rule of law in the region.
