Government of Uganda has defended the arrest of Opposition figure Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine from the plane, at Entebbe airport.
Speaking during Tuesday’s plenary, the State Minister for Security Hon. David Muhoozi stated that despite Bobi Wine being a former presidential candidate, this doesn’t put him above the law.
Muhoozi urged Kyagulanyi’s friends and supporters interested in meeting him to go to his home, instead of turning the airport or streets into their meeting venue.
“The airport is a very delicate & busy place, so too are the roads and streets, which are shared by other users. Preventative measures had to be taken. This country has a government and is governed by and according to the law. Anarchy cannot be permitted. Nobody is above the law, whatever our social standing,” Minister Muhoozi.
David Muhoozi, State Minister for Internal Affairs questioned why Robert Kyagulanyi- President National Unity Platform (NUP) hyped his recent return to Uganda, when there wasn’t anything exceptional about his trip, saying Gov’t shall at all times promote human rights & the rule of law to enable all Ugandans to freely enjoy their rights without intimidation from anyone.
“This wasn’t & most likely won’t be the last time Kyagulanyi is travelling in and out of the country. He has travelled numerous times before. He possesses a valid Ugandan passport, which is the property of the Government of Uganda. His movements are therefore not inhibited. He can go and return peacefully as he wishes,” Muhoozi.
