Tax Justice Network Africa To Host Second Anti-IFFs Policy Tracker Conference in Uganda

The Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) is convening its second Anti-IFFs Policy Tracker piloting workshop from March 19 to 21, 2025, in Uganda, focusing on combating illicit financial flows (IFFs) that pose significant challenges to economic development and governance across the continent.

In partnership with the African Union Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry, and Minerals Department (AU-ETTIM) and the Africa Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), this workshop brings together key Ugandan government institutions to assess and enhance efforts against IFFs.

The Anti-IFFs Policy Tracker workshop zeroes in on four key thematic areas: policy and legislative frameworks, institutional frameworks, information and data frameworks, and interagency cooperation.

The structured tool offers participants actionable recommendations and measurable indicators, facilitating self-assessments that will provide critical insights for effective policy interventions.

During the workshop, participants will evaluate Uganda’s current anti-IFF policies, identify high-risk areas within the financial system, and develop strategies to enhance interagency cooperation in combating IFFs. TJNA’s objective and data-driven approach will enable attendees to highlight policy gaps and track progress, while also identifying opportunities for reform.

Outcomes from this workshop will serve as a vital component of a broader strategic framework aiming to address IFFs across Africa. The findings will be presented at the African Union 3rd Subcommittee on Taxation and IFFs in May 2025, underpinning the continent’s commitment to economic transparency and sustainable growth.

Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) is a pan-African organisation and a member of the Global Alliance for Tax Justice. TJNA promotes socially just, accountable and progressive taxation systems in Africa. It advocates for tax policies with pro-poor outcomes and tax systems that curb public resource leakages and enhance domestic resource mobilisation.
