Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among on Sunday represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the thanksgiving and 10th anniversary celebration of Rt. Rev. Paul Kiptoo Masaba’s episcopal ministry in the Diocese of Sebei, as well as the dedication of St. Peter’s Cathedral Church, Kokwomurya in Kapchorwa District.
The colorful ceremony was also attended by Kenya’s Minister for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, who represented President William Ruto of Kenya. The event was graced by the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, alongside several religious leaders, government officials, and Christians from across the Sebei sub-region and neighboring Kenya.
While addressing the congregation, Speaker Among conveyed President Museveni’s congratulations to Bishop Masaba and the entire Sebei Diocese upon reaching ten years of episcopal service. She commended the Church of Uganda for its continued role in promoting unity, moral values, and socio-economic development across the country.
“On behalf of the President, I bring warm greetings and appreciation to the Diocese of Sebei for complementing government efforts in improving the welfare of our people, particularly through education, health, and spiritual guidance,” Speaker Among said.
As part of the celebrations, the Speaker officially opened the new St. Peter’s Cathedral Church in Kapchorwa and commissioned the Diocesan Health Centre IV and guest house, projects that are expected to enhance healthcare access and hospitality in the region.
Archbishop Kaziimba hailed the faithful for their dedication and urged continued partnership between the Church and government to strengthen community transformation.
Hon. Murkomen, representing President Ruto, praised the strong cultural and spiritual ties between Uganda and Kenya, noting that faith-based cooperation continues to unite the two neighboring nations.
Rt. Rev. Paul Kiptoo Masaba expressed gratitude to God and to the leadership of Uganda and Kenya for their support, describing the day as a “landmark in the spiritual growth and development of the Sebei Diocese.”
The Diocese of Sebei, established in 1999, covers the districts of Kapchorwa, Kween, and Bukwo, and continues to play a vital role in uplifting communities through evangelism, education, and social services.
