SAD NEWS!! Hon. Shamim Malende’s Father Passes On

Grief and condolences continue to pour in following the death of Mzee Jamal Ahmed Sebuta Malende, the father of Kampala Woman MP Hon. Shamim Malende.

The news of his passing was confirmed on Saturday by National Unity Platform (NUP) party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, who took to social media to mourn the loss and express solidarity with the bereaved family.

“We have learnt with great sadness about the passing of Hon. Shamim Malende’s father, Mzee Jamal Ahmed Sebuta Malende. Deepest condolences to Hon. Malende and her entire family on this great loss. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” Bobi Wine wrote.

The Islamic phrase, which translates to “Surely we belong to God and to Him we shall return,” reflects the religious context and gravity of the loss.

A Quiet Pillar Behind a Bold Voice

Mzee Malende, though largely out of the public spotlight, was widely known in his community as a strong and principled man. His values are credited with shaping the fierce and determined spirit of Hon. Malende, one of Uganda’s few female opposition MPs and a key legal figure within the NUP.

Details surrounding the cause of his death and burial arrangements had not been released by press time, but tributes from across Uganda’s political and legal fraternity continue to emerge, honoring his life and influence.

Hon. Malende has been a vocal advocate for justice, often representing detained NUP supporters in court and standing on the frontlines of Uganda’s democratic struggle. Her father’s passing comes at a time when she remains under close public watch due to her critical role in opposition politics.

A Time of Mourning

Leaders, supporters, and colleagues from various political affiliations have sent messages of condolence, recognizing both the personal loss and the national stature Hon. Malende holds.

“Mzee Malende may not have been a politician himself, but through his daughter’s courage and service, his values and legacy are evident,” one supporter commented online.

Funeral details are expected to be communicated by the family soon. The NUP has promised to stand with Hon. Malende during this difficult time.

This is a developing story.
