The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has officially welcomed Ms. Juliana Kagwa as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the country’s tourism sector. The handover ceremony, held on June 16th, was presided over by UTB Board Chairperson Ms. Pearl Kakooza and attended by Vice Chairperson Ron Kawamara, Mr. Rashid Kiyimba, Dr. Ojara Margaret, and Deputy CEO Mr. Bradford Ochieng.
Ms. Kagwa brings over two decades of experience in marketing, sales, and brand leadership across Africa, particularly in the fast-moving consumer goods and agribusiness sectors.
Prior to her appointment, she served as Group Marketing and Sales Director at Seed Co International, overseeing operations in more than 20 African markets. Her notable career also includes senior positions at Uganda Breweries Limited, where she spearheaded award-winning marketing campaigns and boosted the global presence of Ugandan brands.
Welcoming the new CEO, Ms. Kakooza expressed optimism about the future of UTB under Kagwa’s stewardship. “Ms. Kagwa’s extensive experience in brand management and her commitment to sustainable development make her an ideal leader for UTB as we continue to promote Uganda as a premier tourist destination. We believe her leadership acumen will propel UTB’s vision and mission as articulated by the National Development Plan and Vision 2040,” Kakooza said.
In her inaugural remarks, Ms. Kagwa conveyed both humility and enthusiasm about taking on the new role. “I am both humbled and honoured to be called to serve my country in a sector that plays a critical role in transforming lives and driving inclusive economic growth,” she said. “As a lifelong champion of Brand Uganda, I look forward to building on the great work done thus far and amplifying Uganda’s story to the world.”
Ms. Kagwa’s leadership credentials extend beyond business strategy to impactful social initiatives. At Uganda Breweries, she led several groundbreaking partnerships, including the ROOTS reforestation initiative with the Ministry of Water and Environment, and a multi-agency crackdown on illicit alcohol trade.
