The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Election Tribunal has today upheld Ruth Mushabe’s victory as the party’s flag bearer for the Kiruhura District Woman Member of Parliament seat, bringing finality to a hotly contested primary.
In a ruling delivered this afternoon, the tribunal confirmed that Mushabe was duly elected in accordance with party regulations, dismissing all petitions that had challenged the outcome of the primaries.
Mushabe welcomed the decision with gratitude and called for unity within the party as it prepares for the upcoming general elections.
“I thank the NRM Tribunal for its thorough and fair handling of this matter. This victory is not mine alone—it belongs to the people of Kiruhura. I call on all members of the party to join hands as we focus on delivering victory in the national elections,” she said.
The NRM Electoral Commission had earlier declared Mushabe the winner in the party primaries, but the results were contested by rival candidates, prompting a formal review by the tribunal.
The tribunal’s ruling now clears the way for Mushabe to formally represent the ruling party in the 2026 general elections, with Kiruhura being a known NRM stronghold.
Party officials have urged all contestants to respect the decision and rally behind the flag bearer in the interest of party cohesion and electoral success.
