Former IGP Kayihura Runs 16KM to Honour Ugandan Olympics medalists

The former Uganda’s Inspector General of Police IGP Gen. Kare Kayihura has celebrated Ugandan Olympics medal winners with a 16 km run.


The 16 km run that took place on Sunday 8th August 2021 by Gen. Kayihura and his staff in Kashagama, Lyantonde district aimed at honouring Ugandan athletes who represented Uganda at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, the Japanese capital.


According to Kayihura, Ugandan athletes brought glory to their country Uganda and so need to be honoured.

“My staff and I ran a 16-km road run in our beautiful, undulating Katebe, Kashagama to celebrate and honour our heroes of the Tokyo Olympics and glory they have brought to our country Uganda”, Kayihura stressed.

Gen. Kayihura apprehended the athletes for fulfilling beyond his wildest dreams their pledge they made during his tenure on Kapchorwa after challenging them that one day Uganda must share gold and other medals with the legendary Kenya athletes. 


“I thank them for fulfilling beyond my wildest dreams and their pledge in Kapchorwa after I challenged them that one day, we must share the Olympics gold and other medals with the legendary Kenya athletes across the border”, Kayihura narrated.


“It is sometimes back, but am sure they still remember. You did it comrades, you did it”, he added.


All this came after Uganda’s athletes brought home two gold medals, one silver and one bronze from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan.


This was Uganda’s best team ever at the competition that placed it 2nd in African countries medal standings behind the neighbors Kenya and ranked 36th in the whole world.
