Female Candidates Outshine Males in UACE Exams Despite Lower Numbers

According to the latest Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examination results, female candidates have once again performed proportionally better than their male counterparts.

Despite being fewer in number, female candidates achieved higher percentage passes at the upper levels (3P and 2P) and lower failure rates.

The total number of candidates who sat for the examination was 140,888, a significant increase of 28.7% from 2023. Of these, 61,598 (43.7%) were females, while 79,290 (56.3%) were males.

Notably, the number of female candidates has been consistently lower than that of males, but it has been increasing steadily. In 2022, the number of female candidates was 40,713, which rose by 15.1% to 46,860 in 2023. This year, the number increased by 31.5% to 61,598.

It’s worth noting that many female candidates opt for post-UCE vocational programs, particularly in the health sector, which may contribute to the lower numbers in the UCE exams.
