Besigye’s son Anselm Set to graduate from Harvard University

Anselm Besigye will graduate from Harvard University, a private Ivy League research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts this month.

Anselm, the son of former FDC presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye and UNAIDS executive director Winnie Byanyima, enrolled at the prestigious American university in 2017.

“We are toasting Anselm! He submitted his last assignment today & its official- he will graduate with honours on 27 May! Congratulations!” Winnie Byanyima said on Sunday.

Only a few Ugandans have made it to Harvard.

They include: Ambassador Olara Otunu and Aggrey Awori, Former Vice President Dr. Specioza Wandira Kazibwa, Prof. Joe Oloka Onyanga, Dr. Sylvia Tamale, Dr. Emmanuel Bagenda, Prof Mahmood Mamdani, Betty Bigombe and Capt Mike Mukula, Morrison Rwakakamba and Dr Busingye Kabumba.

Anselm grew up in New Jersey and went to high school in Connecticut.

Since his early childhood in Africa, Anselm has been dedicated to fighting poverty and bad governance in the global South.

His upbringing in the United States has also inspired in him a passion to grapple with labor rights and race relations in this country.

Anselm has been pursuing a concentration in Social Studies.
