Bebe Cool is set to release his much-anticipated album Break the Chains on Friday, May 30, and while fans await the official drop, a handful of Ugandan artists who’ve had an early listen are already singing its praises.
Among them is rising star Elijah Kitaka, known for hits like Nothing, Dawa, and Ekyange. After attending a private listening session, Kitaka described the album as “inspirational,” applauding Bebe Cool’s evolution and commitment to pushing boundaries without losing touch with his Ugandan roots.
“As I listened to the album, I got to experience another side of Bebe Cool—his passion and originality,” Kitaka said. “There’s a song where he does a thing that just stays on your mind.”
Kitaka, who has publicly acknowledged Bebe Cool as a major influence on his own musical journey, expressed surprise and gratitude for being invited to preview the album. “As an upcoming artist trying to come up in the industry, I’m happy that he’s recognized me,” he added.
According to Kitaka, Break the Chains is not just a personal milestone for Bebe Cool—it sets a new bar for Ugandan music with its cross-market appeal and high production quality. “What he’s doing—making music for a global market—is an inspiration to us who are just starting out.”
The album, produced between Uganda and Nigeria, has been in the works for over a year. Bebe Cool first teased the project in late 2023, after traveling to Nigeria to collaborate with top producers. He dropped singles Circumference and Motivation earlier this year, building anticipation for what has been billed as one of the most ambitious Ugandan albums
