In a ceremony held at the Court of Appeal this morning, 22 senior police officers took the oath as Justices of the Peace.
Justice Micheal Elubu officiated the event, emphasizing the importance of impartiality and dedication in their new roles.
Representing the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Jesse Kamunamwire, highlighted the key values of professionalism, accountability, integrity, discipline, and respect for human rights.
He stressed, “These values are essential for the officers to uphold as they assume their responsibilities as Justices of the Peace.”
The group of newly sworn-in officers comprises 9 Commissioners and 13 Assistant Commissioners of Police, with 11 female officers among them.
Their duties will include overseeing probationer enrollments, administering oaths and declarations, and verifying signatures on legal documents.
Kamunamwire further revealed that the development is expected to enhance the administration of justice and promote community engagement, as the officers will be working closely with the public in their new capacities.
