Uganda Police Launch Intensive Training for Somalia Mission

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Mwesigwa Frank, Director of Operations, has launched a comprehensive four-month training program for Formed Police Unit 13 (FPU13) at Kikandwa Field Force Unit Base Headquarters.

This rigorous training is in preparation for their upcoming deployment in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

AIGP Mwesigwa underscored the significance of pre-deployment training, highlighting its crucial role in developing peacekeeping skills, enhancing awareness of field operations, and increasing readiness for challenging environments.

He emphasized key principles for the officers, including impartiality, human rights observance, and restrained use of force.

The training program aims to equip FPU13 with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively handle the complexities of peacekeeping operations in Somalia. By focusing on impartiality, human rights, and responsible use of force, the police unit will be better equipped to navigate the challenges of their mission.

This deployment is part of Uganda’s contribution to regional peace and stability efforts. The Uganda Police Force has a strong track record of participating in international peacekeeping missions, and this training demonstrates their commitment to excellence in policing.
