In honor of International Women’s month, the Uganda Development Bank (UDB) in partnership with Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Association (UWEAL) have today hosted the 1st ever Annual Women Entrepreneurs Conference.
This high profile event is running under the theme: “Accelerating Women Economic Equality through Financial and Non-financial Inclusion Opportunities for Ugandan Women”.

Speaking on behalf of the managing director, Ms. Sophie Nakandi Director Legal Services at Uganda Development Bank (UDB) said the event aims to the bridge information gap, a key barrier faced by women in accessing affordable finance, and the participation of women in the country’s development agenda.
She highlighted the importance to recognize that women and girls have made great gains in dismantling stereotypes, midst discrimination and so many barriers.
Nakandi added that women contribute significantly to areas of agriculture, business, trade, industry among others, therefore empowering a woman does not only benefit an individual but the entire society.
“Cognisant of the systemic challenges women in business face, including inadequate access to affordable patient capital and business development services, the Bank established a specialized proposition for women.” Nakandi added.
