First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, has commended Ugandan teachers for choosing unity and dialogue over confrontation, following their decision to suspend the recent industrial action and return to class.
In a message posted on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Mrs. Museveni expressed gratitude to God for what she described as His “personal intervention” in resolving the standoff between teachers and the government over welfare concerns.
“I thank God that our teachers have chosen dialogue and unity over confrontation and have returned to class, showing patriotism by suspending the industrial action as we continue addressing their welfare concerns,” she tweeted.
She further noted that the development was a reflection of divine guidance and mutual understanding between the education sector and the government.
“I have no doubt that this meeting comes as a result of God’s personal intervention, because He knows the truth about where Uganda stands and the government’s concern for all who serve it,” the First Lady added.
The suspension of the strike marks a significant relief for learners across the country, who had been affected by the nationwide teachers’ sit-down strike. The government has pledged to continue engaging teachers’ unions to find lasting solutions to salary disparities and other welfare challenges facing the education sector.
Education observers say the return to class will help recover lost time and restore stability in schools as national examinations approach.
