Ssekitoleko needs to further be disciplined; Minister Obua requests

The State minister of Sports, Hamson Obua has vowed to take further disciplinary action against Ugandan weightlifter, Julius Ssekitoleko for escaping from the team’s camp during the Olympics games in Tokyo.

“Your excellency, please allow me to proceed with disciplinary action in line with our code of conduct. Since 1990’s Ugandans who went to represent the country have disappeared, the names are there. But luckily we managed to get this one. He behaved in an uncultured, uncivilized, unpatriotic manner manner”, Obua said infront of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who was officially welcoming team Uganda from the 2020 Olympic Games at Kololo on Wednesday.

“His action brought disrepute to our country. Just like in the military, we also have a code of act signed by all players and we’re to invoke it for him to be subjected to disciplinary processes”. Obua continued

Ssekitoleke after finding out that he hadn’t qualified for the Olympic Games reportedly left the Pre-Olympic training camp and left a note saying he wanted to find work in Japan.

He was however tracked down by Japanese authorities and deported back to Uganda. Upon arrival at the airport, he was arrested and detained at Jinja road Police Station for days before being released on Police bond.

Speaking at the event, minister Obua said that there is a need to restore discipline to the Sports sector but more so discipline is needed for ou country to prosper.

“We have to discipline him for bringing the Ugandan name into disrepute.” Obua concluded
