A senior three student at Seeta High School, Eli Shama Ssesanga, was found dead in the dormitory on Friday, hanging from a rope made from a mosquito net. Students who discovered the body were shocked and informed teachers, who then contacted the police.
The police arrived at the scene around 4 am and took the body to the city mortuary for a postmortem. However, the school management has been tight-lipped about the incident, and efforts to get an official comment from the police have been unsuccessful.
Officers from Mukono police station confirmed the incident but preferred to remain anonymous. They also revealed that the school management had cautioned them against sharing information with the public or media.
This incident is the second student death in Mukono in recent weeks. Two weeks ago, a senior three student at Mpoma Girls, Carnelian Mary Ndagire, set herself on fire while protesting her return to the same school.
Seeta Schools, where the incident occurred, are owned by State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo. The deceased’s body is expected to be taken to Kyotera for burial, with a vigil currently being held at Nyanama.
