The 1981-6 National Resistance Army bush war hero Gen Elly Tumwine has heaped praises on his boss Gen. Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa.
Gen.Tumwine on Monday morning clarified on his call on President Museveni to prioritize political transition from him to another leader.
Tumwine implied that his utterances have deliberately been distorted by some social media users to create a wedge between him and Gen Museveni.
“The man from Rwakitura has been such a good leader who doesn’t deserve to be harassed out of the Presidency”, he noted.
The guerilla bush war hero stressed that Gen Museveni having been such an excellent leader, Ugandans must use him as a yard stick to determine who becomes next President after him.
He adds that in his view, the next best leader for Uganda after Gen Museveni must be fashioned to have similar qualities and credentials of leadership pedigree.
“lt will take generations for Uganda to find a good leader like Museveni because of his unique capabilities”, Tumwine asserted.
Gen.Tumwine denied being bitter at being dropped from a Ministerial position like the whole country has been alleging.
Asked on when he would want Museveni to leave power, Tumwine replied that “Whenever that time comes”.
Asked who he wants Gen Museveni to hand over power to, Tumwine said that’s not for him to determine but for the people of Uganda.
He also said that much as this was the first time he was expressing them publicly, his views on transition aren’t new.
“My boss and mentor knows these views because I have always been expressing them to him privately and with respect unlike some colleagues who are known for just criticizing”, he added.
The General also noted that his demands for a well-planned transition aren’t because Gen Museveni has failed in anyway but because he wishes him to prepare to avoid having a chaotic exit.
