Magufuli Gov’t On The Spot Over Torture Against Opposition Supporters, Activists

The government of Tanzania risks getting sanctioned over continued brutal arrests and torture of opposition supporters.

This was revealed by Action Aid, a renown international non-governmental organisation that has for years championed the fight against bad governance and accountability.

On 12th February 2018, CHADEMA, a leading opposition party members were attacked by armed men, brutalized and subsequently killed over no clear reasons.

Among these were Hon. Daniel John, Youth wing leader George Hamis Nyalulu who has been missing for the last two days and two others (yet to be identified) were traveling from a local radio station where they had appeared for an evening talk show.

On Wednesday, police official Muliro Muliro told journalists that Daniel John, a campaigner for the main opposition party CHADEMA, was abducted on Monday and subsequently killed by unknown people in Dar es Salaam.

According to eyewitnesses, after firing bullets to their car, some of the members on board were pushed in black tinted van that took off at a terrible rocket speed.

Besides the occurrence of these atrocities, this week Tanzania’s government passed a resolution to ban all political rallies and meetings for opposition leaders while local newspapers have been warned against publishing anti-government content.

It should be noted that the East African country has been one of the continent’s most stable nations, but opposition leaders have recently expressed concern over a string of unexplained disappearances and violent attacks on political figures.
