Kampala City Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago has vowed to go kneck to kneck with anyone stepping on the freedoms of the common person.
Lukwago made this comment while meeting hundreds of residents of Kinawataka, Banda B-1, and Kiganda Zones, in Nakawa and Kira Divisions who are threatened with eviction by Uganda Police in a community engagement.
However the meeting that was scheduled for residents and area Political Leadership to engage with the Uganda Police represented by the Deputy IGP to find a lasting solution to the stand off and put a stop to Police actions turned dramatic when a one Ntambi purported to have been sent by the President to resolve the matter, a claim that was disputed by the NRM Nakawa District Chairman who called him an imposter.
The Lord Mayor who identified Ntambi as a former leader at Natete Market, expressed his disappointment with the impunity and manner in which the central government is disrespectfully handling Citizens, with institutions petitioned being non responsive, yet hundreds of residents property was destroyed during the attempt to forcefully evict them, rendering most destitute and internally displaced persons in their Country.
He promised to follow up the matter to its logical conclusion.
The Nakawa West MP assured residents to remain firm since they are lawful on the Land and the Police management has so far failed to proof ownership of the said land and instead resorted to underhand methods of work.
Present at the meeting was City Minister Hon.Olive Namazzi, Nakawa Division Mayor and Speaker, area leaders amongst others.
