Bulambuli District woman MP Eng. Irene Nafuna Muloni on Friday Feb 10 2023 attended the PDM meeting at the district to assess the effectiveness of utilization of disbursed funds in her constituency.
The meeting was also attended by PDM secretariat, Nangoli Gerald MP for Elgon North County, RDC, district Commercial officer, CDOs SACCO leaders among others.
This comes after the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among granted MPs two weeks recess to oversee PDM in the constituencies all over the country to evaluate and assess the disbursement and acknowledgement schedules of the PDM funds to various groups in the parishes.
Eng. Irene commended the govt for coming up with PDM new guidelines of giving direct to accounts or Mobile money of beneficiaries which will help do away with middlemen.
Muloni asked govt to give money to beneficiaries in March to enable them buy seeds because many in her district are farmers.
If you give my people money after the season of plantations they might just eat it and you start looking for them to recover.” Muloni said.
She appealed to beneficiaries to use PDM money well, the main aim why the government brought this program is to upgrade people’s lives, businesses and to increase on the household income.
Mr. Nangoli Gerald MP for Elgon North County in Bulambuli district warned the beneficiaries not to miss allocate PDM funds if you are not ready leave the money because this is a loan, you will eat it and end up by selling your properties to pay back.
Dr. Okori Patrick Charles Master trainer PDM in Bugisu region said the the government is targeting the 39 percent households who are believed to be the poorest to transform their lives.
Okori who’s also Sironko District Production Officer revealed that beneficiaries will start accessing funds from 1st March this year.
Meanwhile the Commercial officer for Bulambuli District Ms. Cherop Lydia told Bugisu intellectual that they have organized SACCOs and ready to receive the money in all the 122 parishes.
Cherop said among the challenges she the PDM secretariat keep on changing the guidelines everytime, lack of resources for monitoring the PDM activities and poor road network which doesn’t favour their movements mostly during rainy season.
“The maximum amount of one million shillings the beneficiaries would receive is not enough for bigger households” She added.
Nabafu Rose CDO Sisiyi Subcounty in Bulambuli district said that her work is to sensitize the enterprising groups on how to do businesses and benefit in this program.
