The Electoral Commission of Uganda met with senior leaders from the National Unity Platform (NUP) at the EC Headquarters today to discuss issues surrounding preparations for the Kawempe North Division by-election.
During the meeting, the NUP leaders presented complaints regarding incidents of mistreatment of their candidate and supporters, among other concerns.
The Commission assured the NUP leaders that it was concerned about the matter and had already held a meeting with the Uganda Police Force on Tuesday to ensure that incidents of violent confrontations do not occur again in the by-election process.
The Electoral Commission emphasized the need for all actors in the by-election to be law-abiding and to follow guidelines issued by the Commission.
The Commission also urged all parties to denounce all forms of violence and promote a peaceful and fair electoral process.
