dfcu Bank Strengthens Regional Presence with New Fort Portal Branch Opening

dfcu Bank has expanded its national presence with the launch of its 55th branch in Fort Portal Tourism City. The new branch, strategically located along Babiiha Road, marks a major step in the bank’s mission to drive financial inclusion, support entrepreneurship, and boost economic growth in Western Uganda.

The branch will serve communities across the Tooro Sub-region — including Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Kamwenge, Bunyangabu, and Kasese — offering a comprehensive suite of financial services for individuals, entrepreneurs, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). dfcu Bank says the new branch is designed to improve access to credit, strengthen agribusiness, and empower the region’s tourism and trade sectors.

Speaking at the inauguration, Kate Kiiza, Executive Director of dfcu Bank, reaffirmed the institution’s long-term commitment to the country’s development:
“For more than 60 years, dfcu Bank has been a partner in transforming lives and businesses across Uganda. The launch of our Fort Portal branch is a bold step in accelerating growth in this region, which is rich with opportunities in agriculture, tourism, oil, and trade. Beyond financial solutions, we are creating employment opportunities, supporting SMEs, and enabling families and communities to thrive.”

The Guest of Honour, Richard Rwabuhinga, LC V Chairman for Kabarole district welcomed the new investment, noting the branch’s potential to transform the local economy:
“This branch positions Fort Portal as a rising economic hub. With services ranging from savings and SME loans to agent banking, dfcu Bank is empowering traders, farmers, tourism operators, and families. This will accelerate the development of thriving businesses, enhance livelihoods, and strengthen our region’s role in Uganda’s growth story.”

Adding to this, Annette Kiconco, Chief Retail Banking Officer at dfcu Bank, underlined the bank’s sector-focused growth strategy:
“Our strategy centers on agriculture, trade, and business. Fort Portal is an agricultural powerhouse, and dfcu Bank is committed to supporting farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness ventures with specialized solutions. We believe in blending physical branches, digital platforms, and our extensive agent banking network to ensure no one is left behind.”

The Fort Portal branch will also extend advanced digital services, including mobile and internet banking, alongside access to more than 20,000 agent banking outlets nationwide. In addition, dfcu Bank will provide financial literacy programs, mentorship, and entrepreneurial training — with a special focus on empowering women through its Women in Business Program.

A Legacy of Impact

Established in 1964 as the Development Finance Company of Uganda, dfcu Bank has grown into one of the country’s leading financial institutions. It has played a critical role in national economic transformation by financing major development projects, fostering entrepreneurship, and offering tailored financial solutions to individuals and corporates alike.

SMEs, which account for over 80% of private-sector employment in Uganda, remain central to Fort Portal’s economy. By providing access to affordable credit and modern financial tools, dfcu Bank’s new branch is expected to support sustainable business growth in agribusiness, hospitality, and retail trade.

With this latest expansion, dfcu Bank cements its position as a key driver of inclusive growth, innovation, and job creation across Uganda.
