Today the country commemorated 49 years of the murder of Benedicto Kiwanuka.
The the event attracted dozens of top officials including the Kampala Cuty Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
Lukwago appreciated the Apostolic Administrator Bishop Paul Ssemogerere who accepted to maintain the culture of celebrating mass during these tumultous days of the pandemic.

Whereas there are certain steps taken to remember Benedicto Kiwanuka as icon, the Lord Mayor said that isn’t enough. He therefore made these two commitments;
First and foremost, KCCA is going to erect a bigger statue in Kampala in memory of Benedicto Kiwanuka.
He has no grave and no remains! Apparently, the statue at the High Court, Ben Kiwanuka street and Memorial Lectures need to be supplemented to liftup and entrench his legacy. Kiwanuka is remembered in the Legal fraternity he left an enduring legacy, in the Judiciary, he left a momentous significance and he was an icon when it came to Governance issues.

Secondly, when the Lord Mayor saw the rubbles of his former house, the resentmnet he got only enabled him to save his first car currently kept at Semagulu, a private museum in Mutundwe. He says there is need to have this vehicle transfered to the Uganda museum. These actions will be appreciated by posterity as they admire his resilience and his legacy will serve as an inspiration to all.
He concluded by thanking Mr. Robert Ssempa for all the literature and documentation about Benedicto Kiwanuka. As we remember this day, we should strongly condemn extrajudicial killings in Uganda.
