Social Media is a wash of condolence messages mourning the celebrated civil servant Keith Muhakanizi.
At the time of death, Muhakanizi was the permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), is said to be have been flown out of the country three days ago in critical condition.
The former leader of Opposition Hon. Winnie Kiiza while appearing on a local televised talkshow on Thursday night, She described Muhakanizi as man with a unique character and energy.
“Keith Muhakanizi advised against excessive borrowing. We heard him, and we didn’t take his advice. He gave his knowledge whether you believed it or not. He spoke bluntly but he would be ignored.” Kiiza said adding that if all his advices had been taken on, Maybe Uganda would have even entered the Middle Income status fully.
On speaking about the late, Ofwono Opondo, the government Spokesperson said Keith (Muhakanizi) knew the economics. Keith and Mutebile were the two civil servants in the Bank of Uganda who would hold their ground in front of the President.
The state minister for Luwero Triangle Alice Kaboyo also had this to say, “Mr. Muhakanizi Keith was a diligent Public Servant who served the nation in different capacities. At the Office of the Prime Minister, we shall miss his wealth of wisdom, guidance and technical leadership. May his Soul Rest in Peace.”
Senior media personality Andrew Mwenda also described Muhakanizi as a man who used not easily get intimidated.
“Keith Muhakanizi and I were great friends. We were always involved in economic debates. He spoke his mind and he was an intelligent man. I am going to write an obituary about him so that people can know who he was.” Andrew Mwenda said.
Keith Muhakanizi was born in Rukungiri District to the late Rev. Kosia Kajwengye and the late Zeridah Kajwengye. A friend to many he was the Permanent Secretary Prime Minister’s Office, and former long-serving PS Ministry of Finance & Secretary to the treasury.
