dfcu Bank Names Phillip Niwamanya Head of Coverage

Phillip Niwamanya

dfcu Bank has appointed Phillip Niwamanya as its Head of Coverage, effective January, reinforcing the Bank’s senior leadership team as it sharpens its focus on client-led growth and strategic relationship management.

The appointment aligns with dfcu Bank’s purpose of Transforming Lives and Businesses, and its business objectives of delivering sustainable growth, deepening customer relationships, and supporting Uganda’s economic development through responsible banking.

Niwamanya brings over a decade of experience in banking and professional services, having held senior roles at KPMG, Barclays Bank, and Absa Bank. He has established a strong track record in Corporate and Investment Banking, with deep expertise in strategy, client relationship management, deal origination, and P&L leadership.

Prior to joining dfcu, Niwamanya served as Sector Head Resources and Energy, Financial Institutions Group and Commercial Property Finance at Absa Bank Uganda.

His career also includes several strategic and leadership roles such as Senior Tax Advisor at KPMG, Business Planning Manager for Corporate Banking at Barclays Bank, Business Planning Specialist for Corporate & Investment Banking and Business Banking, Acting Chief of Staff and Strategy, Head Ecosystem Banking at Absa Bank.

Niwamanya is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA, UK) and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU). He holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University (UK) and a First-Class Honours degree in Geomatics and Land Management from Makerere University. He is also an Imagine Me Africa–certified workplace coach and an alumnus of the Senior Management Development Programme at Strathmore Business School.

In his new role, Niwamanya will lead dfcu Bank’s coverage function, with responsibility for deepening client partnerships, driving profitable growth, and building high-performing teams that support the Bank’s long-term strategy and commitment to transforming lives and businesses.
