Bobi Wine, NUP Leaders Meet Kibuli Muslim Leadership Ahead of Polls

President hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, together with senior leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has paid a courtesy call to Muslim leadership at Kibuli, as political activities intensify ahead of Uganda’s forthcoming polls.

Kyagulanyi was accompanied by the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, and NUP Secretary General, Lewis David Rubongoya, among other party officials.

The delegation was received and hosted by the Kibuli Muslim sect leader, Prince Kassim Nakibinge, alongside other senior Muslim leaders.

The meeting focused on issues of national importance, unity, and the role of religious institutions in promoting peace, justice, and democratic governance, according to sources familiar with the engagement. Although details of the closed-door discussions were not immediately disclosed, the visit underscored NUP’s continued outreach to key cultural and religious institutions across the country.
The Kibuli visit comes just days after Kyagulanyi and NUP leaders paid a similar courtesy call to the Buganda Kingdom, where they were hosted by the Katikkiro (Prime Minister), Charles Peter Mayiga. That engagement drew significant public attention and was widely viewed as a strategic move to engage traditional leadership ahead of the elections.

With Uganda heading into a critical polling period, Bobi Wine’s recent engagements are being interpreted by political observers as part of a broader strategy to consolidate support across diverse constituencies, including religious and cultural communities.

Analysts note that such meetings signal an attempt to project statesmanship and national appeal beyond conventional party politics.

As the campaign season gains momentum, all eyes remain on how these high-level consultations may influence voter perceptions and political alignments in the days leading up to the polls.
