The Kibaale Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded Onesmas Twinamasiko, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Bugangaizi East parliamentary seat in Kakumiro District, over allegations of assaulting Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
Twinamasiko was arrested on Wednesday and later appeared before Chief Magistrate Nazifah Namayanja, where he was charged with assault and inflicting bodily harm. He pleaded not guilty to both counts.
According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on July 17, 2025, during the announcement of NRM primary election results at the party’s offices in Kakumiro. A confrontation reportedly broke out at the venue, during which Twinamasiko is accused of physically attacking the Prime Minister in full view of party members and security officials.
Magistrate Namayanja ordered that Twinamasiko be remanded to Kibaale Government Prison until September 10, 2025, when his bail application is scheduled for hearing.
The alleged assault has sparked shock and condemnation within political circles, given the high-profile stature of the victim. Nabbanja, who also serves as the Woman MP for Kakumiro District, had been presiding over the event when the confrontation is said to have erupted.
