Museveni’s Senior Minister Quits Elective Politics Over Opposition, Spiritual Pressure

Kampala, Uganda – Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa has announced her departure from elective politics. Speaking ahead of her installation as a Canon by Archbishop Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Nankabirwa revealed her decision to focus on her new church role.

The former Kiboga District Woman MP has had a distinguished career in public service, spanning over two decades. Nankabirwa has held various cabinet positions, including Chief Government Whip and State Minister for Fisheries, Microfinance, and Defense.

As Energy Minister, Nankabirwa has been instrumental in promoting energy access and development in Uganda. Her legacy in the energy sector will continue to shape Uganda’s development trajectory.

Nankabirwa’s exit from elective politics marks a significant turning point in her career. Her new role as a Canon will involve promoting spiritual growth and community development.
